Meurthe-et-Moselle: a teenager dies when hit by a train, the planned route is terrible

This tragedy occurred on the morning of Sunday May 12. A teenager died after being violently hit by a train at Jarville-la-Malgrange station, near Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle).

Hit by a train at 119 km/h

It was 10:25 a.m. when the firefighters were alerted by a resident of Jarville. “She heard a train sound its horn several times, then a violent shock”reports The Republican East in its columns. Emergency services then quickly arrived on the scene. Despite their efforts, they did not failed to revive the young man whose body was lying on the quay, against the fence.

According to the first elements collected, the shock was very violent. The train was traveling at 119 km/h. The victim, aged 16 and from Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy, was thrown about fifty meters from the impact. This is what the traces of blood observed on site seem to demonstrate. Traffic between Nancy and Lunéville was interrupted from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Some trains were diverted and replacement buses were made available.

An investigation launched

The testimonies collected by the police have, for the moment, not yet made it possible to see things more clearly. Our colleagues specify that no one was present at the time of the events. Investigators must now shed light on this terrible incident. The hypothesis of a desperate act is considered. For good reason, according to an SNCF manager, the young man “was pacing back and forth on the quay” and his behavior was “suspicious”. According to him, the teenager “dived when the train arrived”.

“An investigation into the cause of death has been opened which is pointing towards suicide, the young man having been seen moving from the platform towards the train” declared a police Source toAFP. The train driver, who has been working for five years, was very shocked by this tragedy. “He has just lived his first personal accident (…) He had to be relieved by another driver in order to clear the TER.” admitted the SNCF manager. The man will soon be heard as part of the investigations.
