HAS Evron (Mayenne), representatives of patriotic associations and standard bearers, the descendants of two families of resistance fighters, namely Pierre Huault (his grandson and great-grandsons) and Pierre Lesaint (Jeanne Marie Poulin, her brother’s niece) who were arrested in 1943, were welcomed by Isabelle Dutertre, deputy mayor, and Sophie Lechat-Gatel, deputy heritage, culture, tourism, to inaugurate an exhibition.

The latter is dedicated to the five young people from Évron, who in 1941 had removed the Nazi flag, flying over the Savings Bank : Pierre Huault; Pierre Lesain, Robert Besnier, Bertrand Mauduit and Daniel Bussinger.

A heroic act

Isabelle Dutertre, during the inauguration of the exhibition dedicated to them, installed on the square in front of the Michel Nicolas Media Library until June 18recalled the facts.

» On the night of July 13 to 14, 1941, these five young people decided to replace the Nazi flag, raised on the Savings Bank, with a V-shaped badge on which the French and English flags with a cross of Lorraine. 10,000 butterflies with Vive de Gaulle will be distributed in the streets. “

They were arrested two years later, and incarcerated in Le Mans, then deported. Only Daniel Bussinger and Pierre Huault managed to escape and survived, as did Bertrand Mauduit who was the only one to return alive from the concentration camps.

A duty to remember

» The German response was immediate with ban on driving, permanent guard of the flag… The young people were arrested, as well as Roger Mauduit, the father, on denunciation or by chance, we still do not know. We chose to raise awareness among young people of the duty to remember, with the participation of the G Labrique association, and the creation of a panel/portraits made of Lego in relation to the commemoration,” adds Sophie Lechat Gatel.

Lydie Simon administrator, and Nadia Leroux volunteer Lookout 53attended the ceremony, recalling the missions of the association.
