Eight people will appear at the Bobigny court from today for their role in organizing prostitution activity within a large brothel in Saint-Ouen. Sex workers had worked there for years, one of them agreeing to testify.

Chiomara is a former resident of a small apartment in Villa Biron, a huge house which has housed sex workers for several years: “Here, we live almost like a family. As we are trans, far from our loved ones, we are everything to each other”.

A year ago, Chiomara had to move but she still considers Villa Biron her home. The owner of the building and seven other defendants are on trial starting this Monday, notably for pimping.

The place is a hotspot for transgender prostitution. Around thirty people still live there and work either in the Bois de Boulogne or on site: “There are customers here every day, 24 hours a day, some work at night and rest during the day, others work during the day and sleep at night. If there is one who behaves badly, we defend each other.”explains Chiomara.

Coming from Peru in 2011 to escape discrimination linked to her gender transition, Chiomara stopped working as a prostitute. Although her life is not rosy, she nevertheless assures that she has never been a victim of human trafficking at Villa Biron and is worried about the fate of the other residents following the trial: “I spent almost 10 years of my life here with all the girls. When I think that everything is going to end, without knowing where my friends will go and with whom […]. We are sex workers, prostitutes, renting a normal apartment is very difficult”.
