While Paris witnessed significant storms, this Sunday, May 12, a plane was struck by lightning in mid-flight while it was near the Eiffel Tower. Without consequences for passengers.

A plane struck by lightning near the Eiffel Tower. This is the scene immortalized by an Internet user and published on the social network X this Sunday, May 12. While the camera is near the monument, the photo shows lightning striking it head on.

A phenomenon that is not serious for the plane

These impressive photos were taken as major storms hit the capital. A few kilometers further, in Île-de-France, hailstorms also affected several towns such as Versailles and Sèvres.

Fortunately for the plane, this phenomenon remains harmless for pilots and passengers. Futura-Sciences specifies that to be authorized to fly, an aircraft must be certified “lightning resistant”.

The reason: the device flies at a level of highly ionized atmosphere. The metal cabin, however, acts as protection for the people installed inside, the site clarifies.
