Travelers in Haute-Savoie: a senator asks the Minister of the Interior about illicit installations

Will the elected representatives of Haute-Savoie obtain a response from the government regarding the multiple illicit installations in the territory? It is with this hope that Senator Cyril Pellevat contacted the Minister of the Interior. In a letter sent this Wednesday, September 9, he requests a meeting with Bruno Retailleau, in the company of several mayors and presidents of EPCI (public establishment of intermunicipal cooperation).

« My constituency of Haute-Savoie is regularly subject to the illegal and repeated occupation of communal and private land by travelers », Testifies the senator in his letter, sent to the media. These installations, which often take place on agricultural land, economic zones and other public lands, “ impact commercial activities and public services “, he believes.

An “untenable” situation

Cyril Pellevat also mentions the impossibility for the prefecture to carry out forced evacuations, “ due to non-compliance with the departmental plan for welcoming Travelers », which often results from a lack of dedicated land. The senator then describes a situation “ untenable » and who « generates great frustration among local elected officials and populations », recalling in particular recent gunshots at caravans.
