Matam, May 11 (APS) – The Power to Youth project carried out in the Matam region since 2021 intends to conduct citizen hearings in several municipalities in the region to amplify the voice of young people “so that they are more represented within the decision-making bodies,” explained its initiators.

“This year, we are going to conduct citizen hearings in different municipalities in the region, particularly in Ourossogui to amplify the voice of young people, while advocating for them to be represented in decision-making bodies,” indicated the president of the Network of peer educators in the Matam region, Abdoulaye Diaw.

He was speaking during a coordination meeting marking the start of Power to Youth project activities in the region.

According to Diaw, also president of the Matam Municipal Youth Council, this activity will also aim to see how communities “will contribute to the reduction of harmful practices”.

He said that 40 young leaders participated in this activity which took place last year in Matam and Kanel.

Among the initiatives undertaken as part of the project are activities related to the reproductive health of young people and adults (SRAJ), the holding of intergenerational dialogues and radio broadcasts aimed at raising awareness among young people about harmful practices such as excision, genital diseases, pregnancy and early marriage.
