The love affair with the city’s historic insurer ended badly. The divorce was consummated on the edges of the municipal summer swimming pool and its diving board, a truly emblematic monument, like the armchair of the king of liars, by Moncrabeau. The municipality of Nicolas Choisnel counted firmly on the support of its insurance firm to cope with the state of natural disaster following the drought episode of 1er April to December 31, 2017.

A calamity which earned it an entry in the official journal of November 3, 2018. But the three reports from experts who came to the bedside of the equipment contradicted each other, the municipality had to fend for itself. “We asked for half of the overall bill of around 100,000 euros to be covered,” says the mayor. He won’t get anything.

Stone carpet

But if the Moncrabel swimming pool pools have been empty since 2017, the municipality’s coffers are less so. And this is where the community went to draw the financial resources to put the summer swimming pool back into service. “We can announce the opening from July 2. For two months. We replaced all the pipes that had been damaged by ground movements, like the banks. They dated from 1965, when the swimming pool was built. The 600 m² of beaches have been resurfaced with stone carpet. Finally, the edges were leveled on three sides. We built an access staircase into the water and installed a latest generation chlorination system,” explains Nicolas Choisnel.

A second phase of work is scheduled to convert the paddling pool into an aquatic play area for children. If this swimming pool does not intend to compete with the Lud’O Parc, it nonetheless remains essential in the tourist offer of Albret. The same goes for the natives who, for the most part, learned the basics of swimming there.

“We will have a lifeguard this year and we are going to recruit a local young person for the cash register. At night, the equipment, which operates under municipal control, will be monitored by one of the video protection cameras installed. They have already made it possible to identify the perpetrators of damage committed during the renovation project,” continues the councilor, aware that the revenue will not cover operating costs.

“The issue is service to the population. The entrance ticket is 4 euros. We are expecting an attendance of between 4,000 and 6,000 visitors for this season. » A population particularly invested in renovation work. The local association Les Pieds dans l’eau will lead the painting and cleaning activities, in order to get the André-Corne nautical stadium out of the situation into which inactivity has plunged it. The time will then come to put the basin, spared by the movements of the ground, back into water. Long-term. It takes three weeks to fill the 700 m³.
