“A feeling of loneliness” for the mayors of Moselle

The Departmental Congress of Mayors of was held on Saturday at the Convention Center of the Technopôle de . Many topics were discussed during the event, such as security, transport and welcoming travelers. We take stock with François Grosdidier, president of the Federation of Mayors of Moselle.

The mayors of Moselle, responsible for the public debt?

As part of a letter sent to parliamentarians on September 2, Bruno Le Maire, former Minister of the Economy, wrote: “The extremely rapid increase in expenditure by local authorities (…) could alone degrade the 2024 accounts of 16 billion euros. » These words do not pass muster to the Moselle mayors. François Grosdidier, president of the Federation of Mayors of Moselle, confides: “It’s a bit of a feeling of annoyance, of loneliness, on the part of the mayors. Moreover, many have translated this by leaving their office, by not running in the last elections or by having left their office since their last election. » For the mayors, it is “an unfair trial that has been done to them”.

Travelers, the mayors of Moselle exasperated by the situation

The subject most discussed at length during the Departmental Congress is that of welcoming Travelers. “For years, at each congress, mayors have raised the subject and, each spring, the situation gets worse,” notes the president of the Federation of Mayors of Moselle. Mayors are witnessing invasions of public and private land. “The mayors are on the front line and many of them have been physically threatened, even attacked by travelers,” denounces François Grosdidier. This is the case of Patrick Becker, mayor of Kuntzig, who was attacked while trying to intervene in the face of the illegal installation of caravans of Travelers in his town last August.

Medical demography, a new source of concern

Another question is increasingly worrying the mayors of Moselle: that of medical demography, that is to say the presence of doctors in the city, and even more so in rural areas. However, this subject is not one of the primary skills of mayors.
