Thursday, the Information Co-ops revealed that more than 8,200 Quebec drivers who had paid for their license, paid registration costs or passed their driving test still found themselves by mistake banned from driving following the SAAQclic fiasco.

Fifteen months after the digital shift of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), a third of these files have still not been resolved.

“It’s up to the government to respond! The fiasco continues, it is the continuation of this computer pile-up. The fiasco continues in slow motion, then there are Quebecers who are paying the price,” commented the interim leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec, Marc Tanguay, Thursday morning at the National Assembly.

“Remember, a few weeks ago they were talking about they’re looking at facial recognition. So let’s see! This is not serious. […] Rather than trying to do parallel ministries [avec de nouvelles agences en santé et en transports]there should rather be a real ministry and a real minister of IT,” mocked the liberal Tanguay.

“It doesn’t click at all on the SAAQ side, regarding the efficiency of services. The fiasco continues,” said the Parti Québécois spokesperson for transport and sustainable mobility, Joël Arseneau.

The minister responsible

The PQ MP recalls the responsibility of Minister Guilbault.

“We were never really able to clarify why this way of doing things was so poorly managed. We’re not surprised. […] Ministerial responsibility must be paramount. We saw what happened, we made heads roll, but the problem remains,” indicated Mr. Arseneau.

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility tabled her Bill 61 on Thursday for the creation of the future Mobilité Infra Québec agency.

At his office, we assure that drivers will not be penalized.

“The SAAQ works in partnership with the police, who are informed of the situation and take into account the exceptional measures taken. In any case: no Quebecer will be penalized,” promises Minister Guilbault’s team.
