Tangier – Elements of the prefectural service of the Tangier judicial police arrested, on Sunday evening, a Portuguese national aged 33, the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Portuguese authorities and a red notice of Interpol, we learned from a security source.

The suspect, who was located on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, was apprehended in Tangier after his illegal entry into Morocco, the same source indicates. .

According to the first elements of the investigation, the defendant would be one of the five criminals described as dangerous who managed to escape from a prison in Portugal on September 7.

The accused, who was serving a 25-year prison sentence in Portugal for links to a criminal network and theft at gunpoint, now faces, under the international arrest warrant issued against him, a maximum prison sentence of 31 years.

The accused was placed in police custody for the purposes of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor’s office, in parallel with the start of extradition procedures for criminals within the framework of international security cooperation mechanisms.

This arrest comes as part of the sustained efforts of the DGSN-DGST unit to pursue people wanted internationally in cross-border criminal cases.
