SENEGAL-SANTE-INFRASTRUCTURES / Construction of health buildings: Ibrahima Sy promises to work with Civil Protection – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, May 8 (APS) – The Minister of Health and Social Action, Ibrahima Sy, promised to now work with the Directorate of Civil Protection for any health infrastructure construction project in Senegal.

”Regarding the construction of health buildings, we are going to be very careful. Personally, I will work for the construction of future health buildings with the Directorate of Civil Protection,” he said at the close of the joint annual meeting of the health sector.

When visiting the sites, ”members of the said management will be with us to give us advice and see if the companies have really respected the specifications,” he indicated.

”This is something that is close to my heart,” he insisted, recalling the importance of accountability and responsibility.

”I find it a shame that we build buildings, and after four to five years, we say we have to demolish them, when it’s the taxpayer’s money. These are costly investments,” regretted the Minister of Health.

”We are not here to enrich private companies, but to work for Senegal and the health sector,” he clarified.

For him, everyone must take their responsibilities, ”companies, the Ministry of Health, so that the buildings constructed meet standards”.

Regarding the location of the infrastructure, Ibrahima Sy says she finds it “absurd” that we have a hospital in Kolda built in a flood zone. “These are investments that are lost by the health system,” he criticized, believing that it is important “to make a break in this sense”.
