Office in Israel: Quebec could support arms companies

The Legault government turns a blind eye to the type of companies that the Quebec office in Tel Aviv supports, even if they were companies that could sell weapons to Israel.

The CAQ is opening an office in Tel Aviv to “do business,” said the Minister of International Relations, Martine Biron, on Wednesday. The situation is currently critical in Gaza. But the decision has nothing to do with the government in place, she insisted, during a press scrum at the National Assembly.

Could the Quebec office support arms companies in doing business with Israel? “I don’t know, it’s not up to me to know that,” said the minister.

“Our role in Quebec is to support companies that want to do business in the region, to give them this support and that’s what we do,” she added.

Martine Biron stressed that the head of the Office “also has contacts in the Palestinian territories. We do different businesses of all kinds, it’s a paradise for start-ups, in cybersecurity, in IT, in innovation.”
