Cell phone ban at school: “The cafeteria is like a library!”

Columnist Richard Martineau added his two cents to the debate on the ban on cell phones in schools during his daily commentary on the show “Le Québec Matin”.

THE Montreal Journal revealed Tuesday that Education Minister Bernard Drainville was considering banning screens from Quebec schools.

“I’ve seen pictures, there are kids around the table in the cafeteria and they’re all on their screens rather than talking to each other. It’s sad, before in a cafeteria, there was shouting, now it’s almost like a library,” affirms the columnist.

Richard Martineau thinks that we should first lead by example.

“We’re a bit like the guy, it’s 6 p.m. in the evening and he’s on his third gin and tonic, he has a brandy nose and he told his son, ‘Don’t take drugs,’” he illustrates.

The host believes that all this resembles a situation he experienced at his gym.

“People sit on the machines and look at their cell phones instead of working out,” he maintains. Yesterday there was one in the locker room with his cell phone, he just didn’t put it in the sauna. Let go of your christie cell phone!”
