Arson in Villeray: a commercial building targeted for the second time

Montreal police are investigating an arson attack which targeted a commercial building for the second time during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension sector.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received a call around 3 a.m. for a Molotov cocktail thrown against the building located on Saint-Denis Street, south of Crémazie Est Boulevard.

When the police arrived on site, they noticed a window on the ground floor shattered by the incendiary object which was inside the premises, but the fire did not start.

No one was injured and no suspect was arrested, said SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier, specifying that the building under construction suffered minor damage.

A security perimeter was erected to protect the scene, while investigators had to travel to the site to try to shed light on this attempted fire.

The same building had already been the subject of an attempted fire using a Molotov cocktail last year, in May 2023.
