Popenguine, May 8 (APS) – The hygiene brigade of Popenguine (Mbour-west) seized four tonnes of products unfit for consumption, worth 2.7 million CFA francs, we learned of Captain Idrissa Ndiaye, head of the said service.

“Products unfit for consumption are mainly composed of alcoholic products and expired products,” he said.

Mr. Ndiaye was speaking at the end of a control operation carried out in preparation for the celebration of the Marian pilgrimage of Popenguine, scheduled for May 18, 19 and 20.

This operation is part of a battery of measures taken by the hygiene brigade for good health coverage of this religious event.

”We will focus, according to the needs of the organizing committee, on two very important aspects including the intensification of disinfection operations, with emphasis on the fight against crawling in the environment where the event is to be held. event and control of foodstuffs to avoid possible food poisoning,” explained the head of the Thiès hygiene service.

According to him, “very serious work is being carried out to ensure the food security of pilgrims in Popenguine”.

“A total of 80 people were mobilized to ensure perfect health coverage of the event,” he indicated, stressing that the work would continue until May 20.

He also invited pilgrims to “perform well” basic hygiene measures, such as washing their hands, disinfecting reception houses and using mosquito nets.

The Marian pilgrimage of Popenguine is the most important Christian religious event in Senegal, which draws faithful from the country and its neighbors every year: Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania.

It was established in 1888 by the French missionary, Mgr Mathurin Picarda, vicar of Senegambia, and founder of the sanctuary dedicated to Mary, a replica of that of Notre de la Délivrande in Bayeux, in France.
