n love at first sight. A few years ago, Pascale, aka Kalou Von Tasty, came across the boutique of Mademoiselle Gisèle, a pin-up from Liège recognized on the international scene, during a trip to Spain. On her return, the new pin-up takes the challenge of creating an event around vintage in the town of Banos. Thanks to the support of the mayor, Jean-Louis Laporte, the Vintage event on the hill will eventually see the light of day in 2023.

For this second edition, which will be held on May 8 and 9, the ingredients of this journey into the past will still be present (read elsewhere), including more than twenty pin-ups. And maybe more. “The world of vintage is a magnet,” notes Pascale. We only do this for fun. » Coming from all over France and even Spain, these retro girls met in the Landes.

At the top of Banos hill – offering a 360-degree view of the Chalosse – preparations continue. Less than twenty-four hours before the start of the festivities, between 30 and 40 volunteers from the Banossaise socio-educational Association (Aseb) are working to ensure everything is ready. The flashy colors already set the mood a little. And it is the town hall which acts as “headquarters” to refine all the details.

Parades and surprise

For her part, Céline, aka Miss Bunny, embodies the typically American pin-up style. In lemon yellow to the tips of her nails, this tattoo artist fell into the pot after studying fashion. “I saw my mother and my grandmother who dressed that way. Then, after I quit my job, I started wearing dresses and skirts. »

It is also not always easy to obtain these clothes from another era. “There are very few shops. I order mainly on the Internet,” continues Kalou Von Tasty, who has completely changed her wardrobe. It is mainly British brands that continue to produce these elegant outfits, allowing these women to highlight their “femininity”.

A part of her that they will be able to exhibit during two fashion shows. “There will be two to three minute shows with a little bit of everything. I’m not going to say more, it will be a surprise,” says Pascale. These retro girls are trying to escape from this image of the object woman of the last century and want to carry a form of “memory” of fashion and “women’s liberation”.

“Revenge on life”

Most of these women joined the “pin-up community” after life events. Bereavement, illness or even burnout are among the few reasons that pushed them to join this movement. An “outlet” and a way for them to “better accept themselves” or “turn the page”. “For some, it’s a real revenge on life,” confides Pascale.

Furthermore, they regret a form of “standardization” of society. “We no longer pay attention to the difference. The latter even tends to be marginalized. While it is these differences that make this world complementary,” analyzes Kalou Von Tasty.

Inspired by models like Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe or Bettie Paige, these non-professional pin-ups ended up becoming friends through their various travels. Work and demands punctuate their daily life with the ultimate objective of “pleasuring” all the curious people who arrive at the top of the Banos hill.
