The body of Christian Duval, missing for a week, was found this Saturday October 5, 2024 in Quérigut in Ariège.
Christian Duval, a 65-year-old business manager from Perpignan, had not heard from anyone since the morning of Sunday September 29, 2024, after going mushroom picking. His disappearance had aroused the concern of his family, who had launched an appeal for help, while the Pyrénées-Orientales gendarmerie issued a wanted notice.
Found in a difficult to access area
This Saturday, October 5, 2024, his body was finally found in Quérigut, in Ariège, in a steep area in the Capeliers sector, as confirmed by the gendarmerie, cited by France Blue Roussillon. Although the possibility of an accident is favored, no hypothesis has been ruled out for the moment.
The same day, around fifty volunteers, responding to the family’s call, continued the search in the town of Escouloubre-les-Bains, in Aude. His car, a white Citroën Berlingo, had been spotted on a forest path by a passer-by.
For several days, the gendarmes, assisted by a Saint-Hubert dog specialized in searching for missing people, as well as air assets and volunteers, had been carrying out investigations. The high mountain gendarmerie platoon, the Ariège gendarmes, members of the ONF and hunters were also mobilized.
“His jacket and snack were found in his car, which suggests that he may have sought shelter under leaves or tree trunks to protect himself from the cold”confided his partner Virginie Baes the day before. She pointed out that he did not take the usual paths, preferring to cut through the forest.
