Popular crowd bath for one, public meeting for the other. Dozens of handshakes for the first, speeches behind a lectern for the second. In the space of two weeks, the two candidates who are at the top of the polls for the European elections were passing through Seine et Marnenamely Jordan Bardella for the National Rally on one side, and Valérie Hayer, leader of the Renaissance and related list.

Each of the two camps opted for a different campaign, at least in form. Because on the merits side, the two teams which share nearly 50% of the voting intentions according to the polls, apply the same strategy: dismantle the credibility of the other list.

It is therefore in the form that the differences operate. And they saw each other well during their respective trips to the 77.

Crowd bath for the RN

First to come to Seine-et-Marne, Jordan Bardella chose to meet voters at a popular event, the Saint-Parfait fair in Montereau-Fault-Yonne. The heir of the Lepéniste party took a stroll, on April 20, in the crowded aisles of the Monterelais event. Welcomed by local RN executives, led by Senator Aymeric Durox, the man took part in a series of selfies, autograph signings and frank and direct discussions with the public who questioned him as he passed near the stands. . The choice of proximity, an approach taken by the candidate, who has been traveling to rural fairs in France for several weeks, to be “closer to the people”, leaving the meetings to Marine Le Pen.

A well-calculated move for the head of the list, who intends to hunt on the territories of the classic right. “In Seine-et-Marne, the right has disappointed, by submitting to political correctness, by turning its back on authority, by speaking like the left and under its control,” he declared before his trip.

Meeting for Renaissance

Last May 3another political movement, another atmosphere. Valerie Hayer, the candidate of the Renaissance party, has also invested in the Seine-et-Marnaise lands. The meeting was in the small town of Pontcarré, near Ozoir-la-Ferrière. In the town where barely more than 2,000 souls live, the leader engaged in the classic exercise of the public meeting. In a crowded room, “more than 350 people”, according to the organizers, the outgoing MEP was able to benefit from significant support. Indeed, in addition to numerous mayors, three deputies from the sector, two ministers were there to motivate the troops. Eric Dupond-MorettiKeeper of the Seals and Bellifontain Frédéric Valletoux, Minister of Health, had made the trip. They successively broke away from the well-established exercise of promoting the work of their protégé through criticism of the frontist camp’s arguments. A method that works according to a young activist in his twenties, interviewed before the arrival of Valérie Hayer. “A public meeting in a small village like this, with two serving ministers, is truly incredible. The room is full and that allows us to see that the average age is quite low. It shows the dynamics of our movement,” he gushed.

It remains to be seen which method will bear fruit (or not) on June 9, the date of the election.
