“No one will let him go.” Aubusson hospital mobilizes for its director

The president of the Creuse departmental council sent a letter to the ARS to denounce “management failures” in the establishment. In response, the director announced his departure, provoking an outpouring of support rarely seen in a hospital.

“Don’t touch my director, don’t touch my hospital” : a banner displayed at the entrance to Aubusson hospital sets the tone. Inside, many wear a black armband, confirming support rarely seen in a health facility.

At the origin of this crisis, there was a letter from the president of the department Valérie Simonet addressed to the director general of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency. She expresses her concern about the financial situation of the EHPADs which depend on the Aubusson hospital. She denounces what she considers to be “management failure”.

These words triggered a strong reaction from Yoann Campocasso, director of the Aubusson hospital: a few days later, he decided to leave his post, deploring a “breakdown of trust”. Arriving in 2020, the thirty-year-old is very appreciated by his teams. Above all, he has just completed a long-term project: a new 3,750 m² building will be built to expand the hospital and bring together, on the same site, the residents of the town’s EHPADs.

The president of the department justifies her concern with an audit which highlights a chronic deficit for the Courtine EHPAD.

VSHowever, this situation seems well known: since its creation ten years ago, the establishment with only forty beds has been too small to achieve balance. According to the mayor of Aubusson, Stéphane Ducourtioux, its deficit is structural: “The communities which wanted this EHPAD must take their responsibilities and assume the deficit (…). There is no management problem, it is a false subject.” The mayor of Aubusson says he is “stunned” today: “It’s a total incomprehension, why now when the architectural project has started, if not to bother with the hospital director?”

Another support is rarer: that of the unions. LCGT representative Isabelle Moreau defends her director: “We sometimes have differences of opinion at the level of staff representation, which is logical, but he is carrying out an architectural project that we have been waiting for twenty years, he has done everything to bring it to fruition, he has defended, and the fact of his departure risks delaying him.”

Same reaction for Mathieu Charvillat, CFDT delegate: “He has created a more than interesting dynamic, for the benefit of the establishment, the population, the users, the territory and the staff (…). Nobody will let him go.”

The staff is now waiting for a position from the ARS to support the director and prevent his departure. Lhe director of the Creuse Regional Health Agency has already announced this support to our reporting team and should soon officially confirm it.
