He got down on one knee, lay down between my flowers and started licking the floor », before leaving, as if nothing had happened. So the rather disturbing testimony from a Parisian florist in the 13th, recently confronted with the serial licker which rages in the streets of the capital. The man in his fifties was reportedly seen repeatedly on the groundusing his tongue calling for help. An unprecedented situation, which leaves the police perplexed… and above all overworked.

An illustrious unknown

If, for traders confronted with the mystery of the floor licker, the situation is quite disturbing, however, it is much less so for the police. Indeed, the man has already made a notable appearance in numerous storescausing congestion on telephone lines… Often with the only result that ” he-who-whispered-in-the-ear-of-the-sidewalks » is already a long way away by the time the teams arrive on site.

According to their analyses, our mysterious taster would have a predilection for the clothing boutiques of the Left Bank, in particular the 5th, 7th, 13th and 14th arrondissements. Psychologically fragile, he is nevertheless not dangerous, and starts licking again (and not trample, like ordinary mortals) Parisian floors between each of his stays at Sainte-Anne hospital, specialized in psychological illnesses and mental health.

Questioned by our colleagues at Parisianthe police denounce more widely an increase in similar cases, especially since the Covid crisis. They find themselves more and more often confronted with more or less unstable people, without knowing very well how to react. For now though, the mystery remains surrounding this man’s motivations. For our part, we simply opt for a comparative study of soil quality on the Left Bank of the capital. If the results ever appear one day, don’t hesitate to let us know!
