Around a hundred rabbits have invaded the La Croche sector, in La Tuque, wandering freely for several months, a situation which is forcing the municipality of Mauricie to act in the face of complaints to put an end to the proliferation of the little creatures.

The problem is not new since several citizens asked the City to find a solution during the last public meeting of the neighborhood council which took place on January 30.

If three official complaints about rabbits were received in the complaints and requests system via Info-Service, the municipal councilor of the sector was regularly approached by citizens about this situation, explained Hélène Langlais, head of the communications department of the city.

The municipality therefore decided to hire a trapper to place cages in the urban part of the sector to capture the animals, according to a notice sent last week to residents of La Croche.

“The rabbit capture operation will be carried out in the coming weeks and will last until the problem is resolved,” said the City.

According to the City’s latest estimates, nearly a hundred free-ranging rabbits are found in this location.

“The most plausible explanation is that someone released their rabbits into the wild because they no longer wanted to take care of them,” said Ms. Langlais, who however indicated that she had no proof of this. that Sens.

“It may also be rabbits that escaped,” she added about these animals which reproduce very quickly.
