The Seine-Saint-Denis Assize Court sentenced, on Tuesday, Abass Soumah (21 years old) to 15 years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of Aman, 16 years old, collateral victim of rivalries between cities in 2020. The other defendants were acquitted by the court. The verdict is more lenient than the requisitions of the attorney general, who had requested 25 years in prison for the shooter.

The young man was recognized as being the author of the hunting rifle shots which cost the life of the high school student, killed near a playground in Épinay-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis) while he was eating ice cream with his friends on June 6, 2020. The investigation unfortunately showed that young Aman was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was the victim of a settling of scores between the districts of Orgemont in Épinay-sur-Seine and Raguenets in Saint-Gratien (Val-d’Oise).

disappointed by verdict

When the Assize Court’s verdict was announced, Aman’s family showed a face of astonishment then showed their disappointment. In tears, the young boy’s mother went towards the accused’s box to speak directly to her son’s murderer. “You killed my son,” she whispered after taking his hands. She then bowed her head and prayed for him.

To justify this verdict, the president of the Assize Court emphasized that the main accused had admitted the facts from the second day of the trial while he had denied his participation for the last four years. “Abass killed my son but he was the most sincere of all four. He apologized and I told him to be brave, and he apologized,” the mother said, leaving the courtroom. The victim’s father, for his part, expressed his total disappointment regarding the court’s verdict.
