Oussouye, May 7 (APS) – The parish of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus of Oussouye (south), founded in 1924, celebrated its centenary from May 3 to 5, noted the APS.

This commemoration was a moment of reflection for the Christian faithful, of giving thanks to God, of magnifying the role of the local precursors who accompanied the missionaries in the establishment of Christianity in the area.

”The meaning of the celebration of this centenary is to think about the future from the present, while allowing us to fulfill a duty of memory towards the pioneers and all the people who, thanks to their actions and work , have allowed the new generation to inherit this heritage today,” said the parish priest, Father Samson Delaka Kantoussan.

He also invited young people to ”spread Christianity in the spirit of fraternity, conviviality and social cohesion”.

Coming to represent the State at this opening ceremony, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Abib Léon Ndiaye, expressed his “intense joy at witnessing this day which celebrates the hundred years of the parish”.

”This parish framed our first steps in faith and Christianity. We have benefited from its material benefits, but also from its human promotion actions, one of the missions of the church,” noted M Ndiaye, a native of Oussouye.

Father Kantoussan took advantage of the celebration of the centenary of his parish to invite the new government to “respect its commitments and work for the well-being of the Senegalese population”.

”We want the Senegalese to be well trained, well cared for and to have the means to live with dignity.

The challenges of the church are the challenges of our society,” he declared, adding that ”the Senegalese people are thirsty to move very quickly towards development and to see a dignifiedly organized society”.

He also asked young people to ”spread Christianity in the spirit of fraternity, conviviality and social cohesion”.
