Drôme: one million ecstasy pills seized by the gendarmerie, four people indicted

542 kilograms of ecstasy pills were seized by the gendarmerie in Drôme on May 1.

Four individuals were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention.

They are suspected of having organized drug trafficking from Isère.

More than a million ecstasy tablets, or 542 kg, were seized on May 1 in two vehicles traveling in Drôme, the national gendarmerie announced on Tuesday. The pills and a handgun were found during the searches.

The four occupants of these vehicles were indicted as part of a judicial investigation for “acquisition, possession, transport, offer or transfer of narcotics, import and export of narcotics in an organized gang” and placed in pre-trial detention, according to a communicated. A handgun was also found in the cars by specialized gendarmerie units.

The investigation began in October 2023

The arrest followed a report to the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, dated October 2023, on “the suspicious use of a rental vehicle in the north of Isère”, suspecting the transport of narcotics. A preliminary investigation had been opened. The Lyon public prosecutor’s office is now in charge of the investigation.

This seizure alone represents two thirds of the total ecstasy seized in 2022 in France and represents around 10 million euros, the pill selling for ten euros each, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior.
