The government made public yesterday, Monday May 6, the list of vessels authorized to fish in Senegal. “In accordance with the commitments of the highest authorities, the Minister of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Dr Fatou Diouf, published the list of vessels authorized to fish in waters under Senegalese jurisdiction, as of May 6, 2024,” informs we say in a note from the Ministry of Fisheries which has reached us. According to the document, 132 national vessels and 19 foreign vessels are authorized to fish in Senegalese waters. The Source specifies, however, that this list does not take into account the files which are in the process of being renewed. This act responds to the principle of transparency in the management of natural resources which constitute a national heritage, according to the Minister of Fisheries. Still following the Source, as of December 31, 2023, 17,449 canoes (national and foreign) were identified with 7,493 permits allocated, including 18 foreigners, or 43%. The same document indicates that from January 1 to April 30, the national canoe crew is estimated at 17,449 canoes. 4754 permits were issued, a rate of 27.25%.
