We should never leave Montauban, says the formula. And yet, Éric Requet, the new sub-prefect of the Dax district, has done it several times. Firstly to pursue a military career, as a senior officer in the army, before joining the National School of Administration (ENA), from 2003 to 2005.

A fairly varied journey will then follow, which passes through all levels of the prefecture, including two positions in French Polynesia, the last until the end of 2023, and a mission as a reconstruction delegate, after the bad weather. and the damage in the Hautes-Alpes, in October and December 2023.

“When I was a soldier, I was seconded to Bosnia-Herzegovina, after the war, to the office of the High Representative of the United Nations, for reconstruction. I was in charge of finances, I discovered an environment other than the army and I told myself that the spectrum of missions would be much broader through the ENA. When I did my internship at the prefecture in Châteauroux, it gave me a taste for the prefecture. »

Whether in the departments, in the Region, at the national level, in mainland France or overseas, Éric Requet says he is above all pragmatic: “I am not a supporter of revolution, which often consists of returning to one’s starting point. after changing everything. I prefer evolution by touch, I favor common sense and contact with people who know this territory. My role is to help economic development linked to the territory and I know that the Landes, more specifically the district of Dax, is a very dynamic place, with many projects. It’s very exciting! »

“Meet the actors of this territory”

On this aspect, the major events in the district, starting with the Feria de Dax, did not escape the State representative. “Plus 800,000 people in Dax, 2 million additional people on the coast in July and August, I find a tourist component that I was able to understand in previous posts. With resources designed for a department of 450,000 inhabitants, when you have to accommodate five times more population, it requires being particularly attentive and vigilant, particularly in terms of public security. »

A wreath-laying ceremony took place this Monday at the Dax war memorial, followed by a meeting with Dacquois elected officials.

A.B.

Éric Requet did not discover the Landes: he already came there on vacation to Morcenx, Biscarrosse or Mimizan. As a young adult, he also attended Vieux-Boucau, Hossegor and Capbreton. He applied for Dax last March, from his position as secretary general of the High Commission of the Republic in French Polynesia.

“I am happy to be able to discover the district over the next three years, but I already have some knowledge. My father is a veteran of the Army Light Aviation School (Ealat), we had friends from Landes. »

The only file vaguely linked to his previous position, the crisis surrounding the attribution of the surfing event to Tahiti for the 2024 Olympic Games, and to which several Landes municipalities had applied, was the rare time when the Landes coast was mentioned in the Polynesian press: “When the mayor of Hossegor said that he was ready to host the event, in the midst of protests from Tahiti over the installation of the judges’ tower in the lagoon, I think that it calmed things down, and things then returned to normal. »

For the other files awaiting him, Éric Requet pleads for an update in the coming weeks: “I must meet the actors of this territory, the elected officials, the economic actors, associations…” Which he has already started to be done this Monday, May 6, with a wreath-laying ceremony organized at the Dax war memorial, followed by a meeting with Dacquois elected officials.
