The Grand Ouest Élite 47 association will participate in the next edition of one of the largest tournaments in the world.

The Gothia Cup takes place every year at the end of July in Gothenburg, Sweden. The 2024 edition of what is often referred to as the Youth World Cup will take place from July 14 to 20 and will bring together some 30,000 young people from 70 nations. People from Lot-et-Garonnais will participate under the aegis of the Grand Ouest Élite 47 association. Samir Mahfoud and Stéphane Clovis, the two co-presidents, present their structure: “We are a young association made up of around ten volunteers including Mardya Mahfoud, the treasurer, Dr Patricia Pignon-Vivier, Nathalie Machet-Dufour, Florence Dexidour, Moussa Gassama, Aïcha Diop-Lasmak, Sandrine Panzer, Omar Benatia, Sofiane Mahfoud who is in charge of the media and Ahmed Tsouri who has the heavy task sponsorship.

A U18 women’s selection

Finalists last season with the U18 team, the Lot-et-Garonnais will travel with three teams, which will be perfectly supervised with in particular people responsible for logistics, recovery and care. The U18s will be coached by Samir Mahfoud and Omar Benatia, the U17s by Stéphane Clovis, and, new this year, a U18 women’s team which will be led by Yoann Arlat. “These girls who come from the Marmande sports section,” explains Samir Mahfoud, “come from all over New Aquitaine.” The association, which is still looking for sponsors, particularly for the jersey games, will travel with a delegation of 77 people (parents will join them in Sweden). “We were faced with very strong enthusiasm,” concludes Samir Mahfoud, “so much so that we had to make a selection. The Gothia Cup has achieved this success because it is a unique experience for both the players and those accompanying them.”
