Less than 15 minutes. This is the time it will take future students of the Jean-Jacques-Barbaux college from Jouy-le-Châtel (Seine-et-Marne) to reach their establishment and find their home. The new establishment, which will open its doors in September 2025 at the intersection of streets of et of the Beautiful Ideain fact aims to reduce transport times college students living in the “white zone” located between Nangis, Provins and Coulommiers, and at the same time to relieve the colleges of ProvinceVilliers-Saint-Georges, Rozay-en-Brie, La Ferté-Gaucher and Coulommiers.

How many students will be welcomed when the Jouy-le-Châtel college opens?

To do this, the Department of Seine-et-Marne has defined the sectorization of the establishmentvoted on last week. From the start of the school year in September 2025, students of nine municipalities will automatically be educated within the future college: those from Jouy-le-Châtel, Pécy, Dagny, Chevry, Frétoy, Vaudoy-en-Brie, Saint-Just-en-Brie, La -en-Brie et Bannost-Villegagnon.

The law allows a student who wishes to complete their school curriculum in the establishment where they started it, but the number of students who will inaugurate the future college remains unclear. Will the start of the school year be with all levels, or only with classes of 6e ?

Five school bus circuits will be set up to serve the Jouy-le-Châtel college

As part of the opening of the Jean-Jacques-Barbaux college in Jouy-le-Châtel, at the start of the school year in September 2025, the area’s school transport plan will be rethought.
In conjunction with Île-de- Mobilités, the organizing authority for public transport in Île-de-France, the Department has defined five special circuits which, thanks to the location of the college and its sectorization (read above), will help reduce student transportation times.
• Chevry – Jouy-le-Châtel
• Dagny – Vaudoy-en-Brie – Jouy-le-Châtel
• Pécy – Jouy-le-Châtel
• Frétoy – Bannost-Villegagnon – Jouy-le-Châtel
• La Croix-en-Brie – Saint-Just-en-Brie – Jouy-le-Châtel
In order to facilitate the circulation of school buses and secure the surroundings of the college, road improvements will also be put in place. A double roundabout will be created at the intersection of RD1004 and RD215 and rue de Paris, which will serve the college, will be renovated and redeveloped. Its two “stops” have also been removed to ease traffic flow in preparation for the opening of the college.

Sized to initially accommodate 400 studentsthe Jean-Jacques-Barbaux college will have an expansion capacity to accommodate up to 600 young people. Complies with the latest high environmental quality standards (HQE), it will house a refectory, a CDI-media library which will be open to the public outside the college’s opening hours, and will be accompanied bya gymnasiumd’an outdoor sports field, d’a bus station andun parking public of 50 places.

Started in July 2023, work is continuing for delivery of the establishment scheduled for the end of spring 2024, before its official opening next September.
