A 25-year-old man, suspected of driving into gendarmes in Saint-Ambroix (Gard) last September, was placed in pre-trial detention on Friday, we learned from reliable sources.

The suspect, originally from the Ales region, was arrested Thursday morning in Nîmes by a team from the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN).

Refusal to comply and rebellion

Initially accused of attempted homicide of a person holding public authority (PDAP), he is now being prosecuted for aggravated refusal to comply and rebellion. A police officer was slightly injured in a finger during his arrest.

During his appearance before the judge of freedoms and detention (JLD) on Friday afternoon, the suspect was imprisoned. He will be tried immediately before the Alès criminal court on Monday afternoon.

Recall of facts

The facts date back to last September. The suspect drove his car into gendarmes who were trying to intercept him in Saint-Ambroix. He then fled.

A major search effort was deployed to find the suspect, who was finally arrested Thursday morning in Nîmes.
