One week before the double confrontation between Morocco and Algeria for the qualifiers for the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, the lists of the two teams have been revealed.

In view of the third and penultimate round of qualifying for the 2024 U17 Women’s World Cup scheduled from October 16 to November 3 (first leg on May 10 at the Berkane municipal stadium, return on the 17th at the Salem Mebrouki stadium in Rouiba in Algiers ), the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) communicated the list of coach Ouahiba Rahal on Friday. The technician selected 21 players including 10 playing in France, including the Parisian Nora Aït El Kadi, and the Marseillaises Janna Djalti Benziane and Yasmine Bourzig. The group will start their training on Sunday at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Center.

A duel worth its weight in gold

Tuesday, the official account of the Moroccan selections published the list of Youness Rabie. A list which includes 12 expatriates in France like Niçoise Jade Mokhtari or Lille Lina Mokhtar Jamai. Following Hiba Youssoufi’s package, Jasmine Saghri was called in for reinforcement.

As a reminder, this double confrontation marks one of the rare involving Algeria and Morocco in recent years. It is therefore worth all its weight in gold. Especially since the two nations have seen their rivalry exacerbated by the RS Berkane jersey affair in the semi-final of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup. On the sidelines of the first leg against USM Algiers, the Berkanis saw their jerseys confiscated by the Algerian authorities because of the map of Morocco including Western Sahara deemed to have political connotations.

The Moroccans swept Niger (22-0 over the two matches) in the previous round. The young Greens, for their part, had great difficulty getting rid of Benin. Beaten 2-0 in the first leg, they made up ground (0-2) before finally overthrowing the Beninese 7-8 after penalties.
