The new magazine Les Landes d’Armagnac is available free of charge in the offices of the Landes d’Armagnac Tourist Office (OTLA) in Gabarret, Labastide-d’Armagnac, Saint-Justin and Villeuve-de-Marsan. Contrary to appearances, it is not reserved for tourists. The proposed outings and discoveries may be of interest to residents of the area, particularly during the May public holidays. This 48 pages will be valuable for preparing a family gathering in terms of accommodation and catering, but also for local visits and walks which will surprise more than one person.

The information is broken down into six clearly identified parts: the essentials (what to do on Sunday or when it rains?), traditions (parties and outings), appointments with history (heritage and villages), good vibrations ( nature activities), getaways and good family deals and pleasures for the taste buds (gastronomy, Armagnac, restaurant contacts, etc.).

Heritage visit

A reading to be completed by a visit to one of the four branches of the OTLA where you will find topo-guides, while booking a guided tour, including with a local, or a show: five bastides and four castles await you, without forget the churches scattered along the way to Compostela or some nuggets of small heritage: arenas, wash houses, bread ovens, votive crosses, fountains, places of memory, etc.

Obviously, all the information is gathered so as not to miss any festive events, from May to December. By bike, kayak or on foot, good deals abound, with the best places for a picnic or lunch. There are new things to try by bike: the bike-restaurant formula, departing from the Auberge des Chasseurs in Créon-d’Armagnac, or the unexpected encounters departing from Losse.

To finish, a recipe for an Armagnac cocktail or barbecued asparagus with obligatory reference to the original “Dowser’s Game”, inspired by The Goose’s Game, page 46.
