The Malakit project has shown its effectiveness in reducing the number of cases of malaria among garimperos in our territory. It is an innovative disease control strategy for mobile and inaccessible populations.

The objective now is to bring the experience acquired to other territories faced with this problem, such as Senegal.

The country faces more than 500,000 cases per year for a population of 17.3 million inhabitants.

During its visit to the Cayenne hospital from April 7 to 24, the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP) of Senegal plans to deploy a similar project to distribute self-test and self-treatment kits to established gold miners. in the south-east of the country, on the border with Gambia and Mali.
