The affair, revealed by the Bondy Blog, moved activists and elected officials. On September 27, Niabaly Djiby, 79, was expelled from the migrant worker shelter in Les Amandiers, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. His fault? Having hosted his son Aboubacar, who helps him on a daily basis.
The retiree, a former restaurant worker, had lived in a small studio in this home since its creation in 1983. He assures that he has not had any rent arrears since his arrival in the residence.
A situation which did not move Adef Résidences, the manager of the home, who accuses him of an “illegal occupation” due to the presence of his son.
A mobilization to demand the reintegration of father and son
Faced with the situation, residents and some activists are mobilizing to allow the retiree to be reintegrated. Elected officials including MP Danielle Simonnet and Paris councilor Laurent Sorel went to the home to support the action.
“While he has been paying his rent without any delay since 1983, an 80-year-old retiree finds himself threatened with eviction because he took in his son! […] The law must change. Residents of migrant worker homes and social residences must have the same rights as any tenant! », Tweeted Danielle Simonnet in particular.
“Stop racial discrimination! Foreign workers in hostels pay rent, taxes, they must have the same rights as others,” supported Laurent Sorel on social networks.
Residents continue their mobilization to, in addition to Niabaly Djiby, reinstate several other workers expelled in recent months from the Amandiers home.
