Anass Ouaziz celebrates the stories of the mountains of Morocco

In a lyrical stroll through the landscapes of his native Morocco, Anass Ouaziz transposes into color his Amazigh heritage and the ties of his people with the neighboring hills.

A silent beauty emanates from the mountains, the desert sands and the steaming teapots. Born in the small town of Beni Mellal, at the foot of Mount Tassemit, Anass Ouaziz immerses himself in his Amazigh roots to tell the story of “ ordinary stories of Moroccan life, solitude and close links between nature and culture » he explains. After the covid-19 pandemic, he devoted himself to his photographic practice full-time, seeking a deep exploration of the world around him. Street scenes, conceptual ideas and documentary subjects are printed on his silver film, testifying to a quest for banal splendor. Between sun burns, graphic swims, pink twilights and the scent of sweet tea, the photographer celebrates his heritage. “ The cultural beliefs and traditions of my people, as well as the raw essence of mountain life, deeply influence my work. My goal is to preserve these stories and share them with the world », confesses Anass Ouaziz. For five years, he has devoted himself to his project An Atlas Odewhere he ventures into the privacy of his people, into the craters of isolated mountain ranges and weaves a story deeply rooted in resilience and in the simple moments that flow to the rhythm of nature.
