Saint-Jean-du-Gard: “Au Bonheur des Bas”, a fascinating exhibition at the Musée des Vallées Cévennes until August 18

A fascinating exhibition during the summer season entitled “Au Bonheur des Bas”, until August 18 at La Maison Rouge – Musée des Vallées Cévenoles in Saint-Jean-du-Gard. A historic region in the production of silk stockings!

This temporary event highlights hosiery, one of the major sectors of textile production since the end of the 17th century. Around twenty praetors, for 260 works and objects on the stockings, to be discovered in this unique exhibition staged by Aleth Jourdan, former curator of the Pierre-André Benoit museum, then of the Vieux Nîmes museum. An exhibition which will immerse the public in the industrial, artisanal and sartorial history of silk stockings.

In the program :

  • May 12 and July 7 at 5 p.m.: private visits from the commissioner.
  • May 5, June 2 and August 4 at 3 p.m.: guided tours.
  • May 24, at 6 p.m.: conference “ The body in our societies » with David le Breton, professor of sociology at the University of Strasbourg.
  • June 14, at 6 p.m.: conference “ A certain image of women » with Aleth Jourdan, curator and curator of the exhibition.
  • June 27, 28 and 29: participatory creation workshops, with the artist Rebecca.
  • August 8 at 6 p.m.: theater “ The price of silk », featuring a worker, silk worker, widow and mother of two children.
