A man with a knife at the Avaricum shopping center: Bourges police open an investigation

A man, seen in possession of a knife, created panic in the Monoprix store, at the Avaricum shopping center, in Bourges, this Monday, April 29. Two complaints were filed. The police opened an investigation to try to find this man who appeared “shirtless, with tattoos on his face”.

A police investigation was opened after a man, described as being in possession of a knife, was seen this Monday, April 29, shortly before 8 p.m., at the Avaricum shopping center, in downtown Bourges. When the police arrived, the man was no longer present at the scene.

“They looked for him but he was no longer there, testifies a shopkeeper at the shopping center. A few minutes earlier, my colleagues saw him fighting with two security agents in front of Monoprix. Then the agents entered Monoprix and he followed them.”

The two Avaricum agents ran into the store to warn us that he was armed with a knife

A version reinforced by a Monoprix employee who explains that this man had already come several times during the day on Monday “speaking very loudly in the store”. Shortly before 5 p.m., he “returned to the store to buy a product. Since we do not have a security guard on Mondays, Avaricum security guards came and followed this person who started to insult them, because he was being followed.” Still according to this employee, the man said to the agents: “Why are you touching me? Imagine if I had a knife on me.”

Customers take refuge in a section

It was approximately three hours later that the man returned to Avaricum and the fight took place in front of Monoprix with the two agents described by the witnesses. “The two Avaricum agents ran into the store to tell us that he was armed with a knife,” says the Monoprix employee. “They told us to call the police. From there, the man ran behind the officers with a knife. My colleague called the police. The few customers who were in the store took refuge in the Home and Leisure department. The man no longer saw the officers, he left the store.

Two complaints filed

Although there were no injuries, the store’s customers, “around seven or eight people” were very scared, as were the Monoprix employees. The man, who was “shirtless, with tattoos on his face” is still wanted. Complaints were filed by the two security guards.

Contacted, Julie Maridet, who is the head of the Avaricum shopping center, did not wish to speak.
