festive, the coming months will also be festive for traders

The first deputy, notably in charge of businesses, Clémence Brandolin-Robert, received traders from the Agen city center on Thursday May 2. This informal meeting sparked little discussion. Overview of the topics discussed.

1 Tour de France, starting point for a three-day weekend

For those coming out of hibernation, Agen is the starting point for the Grande Boucle on July 12. Around 15,000 people are expected during a day where several events will take place one after the other. In addition to the false start at 1:35 p.m., giant screens will be installed on Rue de la République, a bike fair is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Café Vélo, then the day will end in Agen village. “There will be strong constraints” in terms of car travel and parking, warned Clémence Brandolin-Robert. A mobility plan is planned by the municipality: certain arteries will be closed to traffic and parking limited. Traders will be invited again at the beginning of June to find out the details.

The next day, time will be given to the activities of July 13 and 14. Enough to attract many tourists, “who could come over three days”, predicts the first assistant.

2 Agen Festivals, in a “noon-midnight” spirit

They will take place on August 31. In search of the right formula, the municipality opted for a single day and two headliners: Olivia Ruiz and Pascal Obispo.

“It has to be in a noon-midnight spirit,” said the elected official. It’s not a festival, it’s a popular celebration where there is music. We said to ourselves that it would better integrate downtown restaurants into this dynamic. » One of the major challenges of this edition will be to make these festivals “as loss-making as possible”.

On the same subject

The Agen Festivals are still looking for the magic formula

With barely more entries than in 2022 and a decreasing deficit, but still of 567,840 euros, the festivities at the end of August do not really succeed in setting the city on fire. Those of 2024 will take place on August 30 and 31

3 American week around a twinning

In order to “reactivate” the twinning with Corpus Christi (Texas) and for it to “spread to the general public”, the town hall is organizing an American week, from May 27 to June 2. “We are going to mix American culture and events in the city to raise awareness of Corpus Christi and the twinning committee,” continues Clémence Brandolin-Robert, who emphasizes that the latter will give “opportunities to young people. We will allow them to go to the United States for a month.”

Musical collaborations; blues and gospel concerts; photo exhibition of the Texan city and Tex-Mex meals will be on the program.

4 Two-way street and enlarged terraces

From May 18, the part of avenue Jean-Jaurès, going from Pin to Floréal, will return to two-way traffic. Enough to promote “accessibility in the city of Agen”, comments the elected official. “We discuss with traders to find out how we organize the work of phase 2, in front of the 48ᵉ RT. » A meeting took place on Tuesday April 30 to this effect.

In the city center, rue Voltaire is closed to traffic between 11 a.m. and 1 a.m. from May 1 until September. The opportunity for traders to expand their terraces.

And in zones?

The activity zones are expected to undergo some changes. Along Allée de Riols, the Easy Group will launch a promotion of seven lots. “We are on a plot of 2,700 m² opposite the Metro. We start with lots of 90 to 800 m². Marketing is open,” explains David Trévisiol, CEO of this company specializing in commercial real estate. The same one that will set up a catering hub on the TAG. “It will be built around a main brand developed with a local partner. We are also planning offices and some service businesses,” explains the CEO.
In terms of catering, new proposals have been announced within the scope of Burger King, where the Bertrand group, which owns the fast-food chain, will set up a Volfoni, an Italian specialty restaurant. A little behind the initial schedule since the building, which is ready, is awaiting the arrival of its operator in the coming weeks. In the former Yamaha dealership visible from Avenue Tissidre, a predominantly Asian buffet is being set up. And it’s also a buffet, this time around meat, which should be set up in the old Pataterie.
