(APS) – The President of the National Assembly, Amadou Mame Diop, reaffirmed Senegal’s determination to support the Palestinian people.

“Also, I would like to reaffirm here the determination of the National Assembly of Senegal to work, side by side with the Government, to promote, support and lead wherever necessary, the fight of the brother people of Palestine,” he said. -he declared during the 5th inter-parliamentary Jerusalem platform conference.

“Freedom and independence for Palestine” was the theme of this meeting which took place recently in Istanbul, in a context marked by an upsurge in violence in the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

According to Amadou Mame Diop, it is regrettable today to note that despite the multiple diplomatic efforts made, both within the United Nations and in various international bodies (…), the situation in Palestine not only still remains in the dead end, but getting worse.

However, he said, there is a reason to “give up and let our Palestinian brothers continue to suffer from the horrors of occupation, from the humiliations and abuses of all kinds to which they are subject, with their daily share of victims.” innocent”.

”Our collective conscience, our concern for justice and freedom, our duty of solidarity and the universal values ​​that we share with other revealed religions, in no way authorize us to remain inactive, to accept the unacceptable,” he said.

In this regard, the President of the National Assembly praised “the tireless efforts of the Islamic Ummah to help the brother people of Palestine to recover their legitimate rights, to live in peace in an independent and sovereign State, with secure borders. , secure and recognized, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

In the same vein, he maintained that Senegal, “faithful to its principles of solidarity, promotion and respect for human rights, is part of this dynamic by continuing to chair the Special Committee of the United Nations for the respect of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.”

According to him, ”it is only by respecting the fundamental rights of the brother people of Palestine and guaranteeing the freedoms of all religious components of the holy city of Jerusalem, that we can ensure a just peace and sustainable in this region which has suffered so much over the decades.”

Based on this observation, he invited his parliamentary colleagues to “find the means and mechanisms to relaunch the process of resolving the Palestinian question, and to ensure, as a matter of urgency, the preservation of the historical, legal and political status of the holy city of Jerusalem, illegally subjected to numerous violations, to serious attacks on its identity and its integrity”.
