Matam, May 2 (APS) – The Matam academy inspector, Mbaye Babou, insisted on Thursday on the interest that writing represents for students in their school curriculum.

“The value of writing lies in the fact that it opens children’s minds, develops their spelling skills, enriches their experience and refines their reasoning,” he maintained.

Mr. Babou spoke during the opening ceremony of the second edition of the Matam International Book Fair (SILIMA), initiated by Abdourahmane Diène, a French teacher at Ogo high school.

He called for strengthening the teaching of art, writing and reading, as well as the holding of writing workshops for students.

During this second edition of SILIMA, book presentation sessions, an exhibition, a conference and other activities linked to poetry and slam are planned.

“Read to know yourself, write to understand yourself” is the theme of SILIMA 2024, which recorded the participation of several writers at its opening, including the Chadian Adama Ramou, the Senegalese Djinda Dème, Dr Ndongo Mbaye, Mamoudou Sidy Bâ, among others.

This literary event ends on Saturday.
