A huge network of cycle paths will be created between France and Germany. Building cycle paths to connect all the communities of municipalities and the Sarres territory is the objective of this project led by the SaarMoselle Eurodistrict. The Intervelo SaarMoselle aims to connect the already existing tourist cycle paths in order to mesh the entire territory.
Its No. 1 – Cycle paths to connect the entire Sarre-Moselle region
All the communities of municipalities in the region will connect through cycle paths. The Saint-Avold urban community will build 7 km of track. Julien André is responsible for the transport and mobility department at CASAS. The idea:
It is to take the Freyming cycle path, at the Barrois quarry, to have the connection to Germany on one side, and on our side, to have another connection to Germany, from near Lauterbach.
A budget of almost 9 million euros is allocated for the creation of new tracks. Gérard Thomas is a member of the management authority of the Interreg Greater Region program.
In terms of the program, we have other cycle paths which will be implemented, but they are still being studied, and will be decided later.
This project is an asset for the region. Audrey Staub is the director of the Sarreguemines tourist office.
These are things that will allow us to bring visibility to the practice of holiday cycling, and which will allow users to consider making larger loops. There are more and more users who are taking up cycling for the holidays.
For cyclists, this is a step forward, but there is still work to be done. Benoît is a member of the Forbach cycling collective.
This project is a hope that we will have real junctions, but the problem remains crossing cities. You can reach the cities between them, but once you arrive in the cities, you have no itineraries, you no longer know where to go.
While waiting for other projects in our municipalities, this complete network of Sarre-Moselle cycle paths should be completed in December 2026.
