A Belgian tourist was stabbed this Wednesday, May 1 in Brest (Finistère), by a patient who had escaped from the Bohars psychiatric hospital, Brest deputy public prosecutor Emmanuel Phelippeau told Le Parisien. , confirming the information from Ouest-France.

Wednesday morning, a 31-year-old Brest resident, interned at the Bohars psychiatric hospital, escaped from the building. Around 10:30 a.m., he stabbed a 29-year-old Belgian tourist in the Brest Explorers Garden.

Seriously injured, the victim was transported to hospital. Her life is not in danger and she should be released this Thursday afternoon, according to the Brest deputy public prosecutor.

The suspect was arrested by police officers from the Brest police station and re-internment, “his state of mental health having been deemed incompatible with placement in police custody”, specifies Emmanuel Phelippeau. According to Ouest-France, the man escaped from the psychiatric hospital on April 28.

An investigation was opened by the Brest public prosecutor’s office for “attempted murder” and entrusted to the Brest police station.
