Five yachts destroyed by a giant fire in the port of Saint-Laurent-du-Var

A spectacular fire ravaged the port of Saint-Laurent-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes) without causing any casualties on Wednesday May 1, 2024. Seven boats were affected by the flames, including five yachts which were destroyed. A major rescue system was mobilized for part of the night.

The port of Saint-Laurent-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes) was the scene of an impressive fire on the evening of Wednesday May 1, 2024. No victims were reported but the intensity of the fire, images of which have was relayed on social networks, required the deployment on site of 67 firefighters who came with 34 machines, details Le Figaro Or Nice morning . Five large yachts were destroyed by the flames. They measured between ten and fifteen meters. Two other boats were also damaged.

The amount of material damage would amount to several hundred thousand euros. The fire started in a boat around 10:30 p.m., reports France Blue Azure . The fire was brought under control by firefighters who ended their intervention around 3 a.m. An investigation was launched by the Grasse public prosecutor’s office (Alpes-Maritimes) to clarify the origins of the incident.

A site inaccessible due to decontamination

The context in which the fire started could not initially be determined, explains the national daily. The port of Saint-Laurent-du-Var could not be reopened to the public immediately either. The fire actually generated pollution that specialists must now eliminate. The duration of the upcoming operations has not been specified.
