Marcello Mio: the new film by Christophe Honoré with Chiara Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve presented at Cannes

After inviting the brilliant actress Chiara Mastroianni to play in several of his films – No my daughter, you will not go dancing (2009) and more recently Room 212 (2019) – the director Christophe Honore is preparing to bring together a family cast for its next feature film. Imagined in homage to the famous actor Marcello Mastroianni, Marcello Mio features the actress’ mother, the immense Catherine Deneuvebut also her ex-husband Benjamin Biolay.

In the film selected in competition at Cannes film festival 2024, the actress embodies the different facets of the life of her father, who died in 1996. In a first trailer, Chiara Mastroianni appears thus made up with a thin mustache, resembling the actor more than ever. “It’s like I’m the one who became my father’s ghost” she declares with emotion.

Melvil Poupaud, Nicole Garcia… The five-star cast of the film Marcello Mio

In the (very family-friendly) casting of the film Marcello Miowe also find the actor Melvil Poupaud, recently seen in Love and Forests (2023) Valerie Donzellibut also Nicole Garciaheroine of the series Everything is fine (2023) alongside Virginie Efira. The actor and singer Benjamin Biolay will, for his part, play his own role while Fabrice Luchini supports Chiara Mastroianni in his grieving process.

Last year, Chiara Mastroianni shone in her role as mistress of ceremonies on the occasion of the Cannes film festivalinviting on stage Catherine Deneuve at the end of a remarkable speech. This time, she will climb the famous steps to defend the film Marcello Mio – which will be released in cinemas on May 21, 2024 – in competition.
