This 1er May 2024, most businesses close their doors for one day in . But certain stores remain open, notably gardening stores. Le Journal Toulousain takes stock of businesses open or closed on this Labor Day in Toulouse.

Who says 1er May, known as Labor Day. Most workers in are therefore on vacation that day. Despite the national holiday, not everyone is in the same boat and certain stores will exceptionally welcome the public. Le Journal Toulousain takes stock of businesses open and closed in Toulouse on Wednesday May 1st.

First of all, it is important to note that public transport will not operate throughout the day, as Tisséo announces on its website. Neither bus, tram, metro, nor even the airport shuttle will be operational this Wednesday, May 1.

Closures to be expected in Toulouse this May 1st

Hypermarkets and galleries in large shopping centers in the Toulouse region, such as Roques, , Saint-Orens, Rouffiac, Purpan, Portet and Labège will be closed, as will the Gramont space in Balma. Also affected by the closures, the Galerie Espace Fenouillet as well as the Espace Saint-Georges shopping center. Note that Carrefour Market will be no exception to this trend.

In the field of DIY and housing, brands such as Castorama and Leroy-Merlin, present in L’Union, Blagnac, Portet-sur-Garonne, Saint-Orens, and Balma, will remain closed. Likewise, the Ikea in Roques-sur-Garonne as well as the Alinéa store in Blagnac will do like the others, and will not open their doors.

Culture enthusiasts will also have to wait until the next day to satisfy their curiosity, because all Cultura stores located in Portet, Balma, Fenouillet and Labège will be closed.

Exceptions for this Wednesday, May 1st

Despite this public holiday, some businesses have chosen to maintain their activities. Thus, brands specializing in gardening, such as Jardiland, Truffaut and Botanicwill open with hours similar to a normal working day:

  • Jardiland de Montaudran open from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and that of Portet from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Truffaut de Balma, open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., that of Colomiers, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that of Saint-Jory from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Botanic stores in Labège open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that of Blagnac from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Toulouse’s traditional markets, such as the Victor-Hugo market and the Carmes market, will also remain open with the following hours:

  • Victor-Hugo Market, open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Carmes Market, open from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

As for the cinemas, if you were planning to take the opportunity to see a film, now is the time since the Gaumont Wilson and Labège as well as the UGC in Toulouse will open their theaters all day.
