Many claps of thunder and downpours of water accumulating to the point of causing flooding in certain areas of the Rhône and in particular Beaujolais, near Lyon. Météo France places the department in yellow vigilance rain-flood until 4 p.m. this Thursday May 2.

As in Île-de-France, the numerous precipitations and storms on Wednesday May 1, which came after a very rainy episode in the Rhône, caused damage in several municipalities around Lyon. Images.

Flooded roads west of Lyon

Following the storms of Wednesday May 1, 2024 and the rain that fell overnight, several roads were flooded in the north and west of Lyon. Same scenario as last weekend.

The town of Heyrieux (Isère) is not spared: cars and other vehicles must cross several centimeters of water at a roundabout.

If the water is slowly reabsorbing this morning, surrounding communities such as Diémoz are still very affected.

Beaujolais affected by floods

Same observation in Beaujolais, here in Liergues (30 minutes from Lyon) where water accumulates on the road and forces motorists to proceed with great caution.

The roads are soaked and made slippery by accumulations of water on the road. Due to very heavy rains, caution if you are traveling in the Rhône, north of Lyon and in the Val de Saône.

Falling trees in Lyon

The night from Wednesday to Thursday May 2 was also marked by falling trees In Lyon. Rue de Saint-Cyr, which connects Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or and the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, is cut in both directions this Thursday morning due to a tree falling on the track.

In the 1st arrondissement, another tree fell without causing any damage. Although the wind was not very strong, the numerous rains in recent days are weakening the soil and roots.

As a reminder, the daily precipitation record for the month of April, last recorded in 1948, was broken on April 28 with more than 90mm recorded in Lyon-Bron and up to 150 mm in the south of the department.
