This was led by Maurice Goret, national instructor. It is part of a specialization course for diving initiators and instructors, which allows them to supervise people with disabilities.

It all started from a reflection, in the 2000s, between the different federations concerned on a common project allowing the integration, in a course recognized by the State, of people with disabilities. It thus contributes to the inclusion of these people in social life thanks to underwater sports. This work culminated in the development of an agreement, which gave birth to a label called Handisub.

Theory and practise

The Vierzon course was the last day of this regional training, which includes eight hours of theory, one day devoted to motor disabilities and one to mental disabilities, in this case in Vierzon. Twenty-five trainees are spread across the region and there were nine on Sunday to complete their training.

After a morning devoted to teaching, in the afternoon they welcomed around ten people with neuro-behavioral disabilities, aged 21 to 62, into the pool. Eight of them were offered a first dive, while the other two, already practicing, continued training to prepare for a level 12 and 20 meter depth diploma. The first level is 6 meters away.

The Vierzon club Berry Plongée prepared this event in advance with Maurice Goret and provided all the necessary equipment. The City of Vierzon has also reserved the municipal swimming pool for them. “We are delighted to support the club for this event linked to disability sport,” says Wendelin Kim, deputy mayor responsible for sports. Our door will always be open when events related to disability sport must take place in Vierzon. »
