Nolan Roux: “I enjoy it because it’s real football”

For Provence, Nolan Roux spoke about his new life in the region. Officially retired since June 2023, the former professional footballer, who played in Brest, Lille and Saint-Étienne, talks about his choice to settle in Beaucaire and his plans. Interview.

Your professional career is officially over since the end of your contract at Châteauroux (National 1) in June 2023. Why did you retire?

I still have this passion for football, but it’s true that I detached myself because it no longer suited me. I had less fun because football has changed. I had always said that the day I no longer enjoyed the field, I would stop. It happened at 35 years old.

How did you end up within the veteran leisure team of Saint-Étienne-du-Grès?

I play for fun in this team on Fridays. I train with them from time to time. The quality of the terrain is not what I have experienced, so it is a little harder. I play striker, midfielder, side. My best friend, who has a restaurant in Arles and who lives in Saint-Étienne-du-Grès, told me that every Friday evening, the veteran leisure team from Grès played a match and that the players were super friendly. We tested, I stayed, and I played the leisure championship with them. Sometimes there are a lot of young players, other times there are more veterans, we come across good players, who have had a short career. I go there to have fun, but there is a good level. I enjoy it because it’s real football, without all the fuss. It’s an atmosphere that I didn’t know before. Maybe I’ll play for another small club as a senior next year.

What else do you do to stay in shape?

I started playing padel. I haven’t stopped exercising, I can’t, I love it, I’m still active. Physically, I know I could play at a certain level. But mentally, I needed to discover new things, those that I didn’t have the opportunity to do during my career, to take time for myself. It’s simple things that drive me. For example, I couldn’t celebrate my family members’ birthdays. For me, it’s a luxury to have been able to celebrate my father’s this summer. It was great ! Today, I have the luxury of being able to do what I want: fish, go for a walk, help a colleague…I enjoy every day because every day is different depending on what I want to do. .

I am enjoying this retirement, but I know that I am an active and very fast person. So you’ll have to find something very regular to do. I was raised like that, with fixed schedules. I’m never late. I always have this rigor towards myself. We told me : “You’ll see, you’ll eat a little more in retirement, you’ll enjoy…“But I have a healthy lifestyle and I stick to it.
