Météo France placed, this Wednesday, 19 French departments on orange alert. Five departments are placed on orange “rain-flood” vigilance: Calvados, Eure, Orne, Seine-Maritime and Eure-et-Loire. They join the 14 departments which were already concerned by orange vigilance for “storms”: Marne, Yonne, Aube, Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Seine-et-Marne, Val-de-Marne, Essonne, Val-d’Oise, Yvelines, Hauts-de-Seine, Oise, Somme and Aisne. Calvados is also placed on orange alert for floods.
Marked electrical activity, heavy precipitation and squalls
According to Météo France, this stormy wave is “organized and intense”. This Wednesday at the end of the afternoon, the rains will be“low to moderate intensity”, before strengthening in the evening. Accumulations could reach 60 mm syr 24 hours in places.
“The risk seems more marked in the east of Calvados, the east of Orne and the Eure. The soils which are still wet or even saturated in places constitute an aggravating factor”, note Météo France. The storms are expected to be virulent with hail and squalls. Electrical activity will also be marked.
