Bruno Fratus will not go to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Brazilian, bronze medalist in the 50m freestyle in Tokyo, behind the American Caeleb Dressel and the French Florent Manaudou, published a text on Instagram on Wednesday, to announce that he renounced the national selections. At almost 35 years old, he was hampered by multiple injuries, which prevented him from having ideal preparation for the summer event.
Four surgeries in 18 months
“Over the past 18 months there have been four surgeries, countless physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions. All of this prevented me from preparing in a way that would put me in a competitive position in Paris, in less than 100 days. As difficult as it is, I have chosen not to participate in the Olympic trials next week and will therefore not be in Paris”he posted on his account.
“After three Olympic Games, it would not make sense to go to Paris, put on the Brazilian uniform, without the full conviction that I am fit to fight for the event”, he added. However, he clarified that this did not mark the end of his career.
