The House of Africa and the Caribbean is organizing a week dedicated to Haitian culture in La Rochelle, from May 10 to 18, in honor of the 221st anniversary of the Haitian Flag.
This event will be an opportunity to explore the cultural riches of Haiti through stories, concerts, dances, film screenings and literature, in the presence of Haitian and French speakers.
The program
Friday May 10
From 10:30 a.m., Day of Commemoration of the abolition of slavery, with a ceremony on the banks of the channel, in the presence of the Haitian ambassador to France. A sculpture will be inaugurated in the presence of Haitian artist Filipo
Saturday May 11
Haitian tales will be read from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Meet at the Mireuil Media Library. From 6 years old. FREE ENTRANCE
In the evening, from 7 p.m., an evening is offered in the company of the writer, storyteller and actor Jude Joseph at the Salle Bernard Giraudeau.
Sunday May 12
From 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Bernard Giraudeau room, an exhibition and sale of Haitian crafts and art is organized with a fun activity on Haiti, followed by a conference on Toussaint Louverture by Professor Jacques de Cauna.
A Haitian aperitif dinner (by reservation) will end the evening.
Friday May 17
Meet at Haitian Book Day at Place de Verdun from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
An evening is also offered from 6 p.m. in the Oratory room with a conference on the Haitian religious calendar by Souzen Joseph (Journalist specializing in culture, education and gender), and a concert-show on the Haitian revolution with the Ayitchewè group.
Saturday May 18
Workshop: Haitian Dance & Drum. It’s from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with Nerlande Bazelais, Ebawade Kodjovi SEVI and Bertrand Boua).
Open to all levels, by reservation.
Finally, the broadcast of the show “Haïti Terre de Feu” will be presented by director Yole Dérose at the Tour de la Chaîne.
